Thailand to use standardized labels on packaged products
Posted in General,News August 19, 2008As and when the regional agreement on the use of standardized labels for packaged products in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) becomes effective, Thailand will have the opportunity to export more pre-packaged products in the region and to other countries.
Speaking at a seminar on “The Use of Standard Marks for Packaged ASEAN Products,” Thailand’s Internal Trade Department director-general Yanyong Puangraj said that the regional grouping had reached agreement since 2004. Under this agreement, products will be packaged according to the same standard to facilitate the export of consumer products. This would undoubtedly benefit Thailand as Thailand is the regional group’s largest producer of consumer goods. This agreement would also help in the reduction of costs for producers and also help in the improvement of the standard of product packaging in Thailand, he said.
