Bus accident in Thailand
Posted in General,News October 12, 2008The deadly morning of October 10 last Friday saw a bus overturned killing 21 people, and injuring 27 others. The bus was running down the hill on Nadee–abin Buri Road in Moo 4 village of Tambon Bupram in Prachin Buri’s Nadee district.
The accident happened at 3am killing 18 men and three women while 23 other men and four women were injured. The bus was carrying 43 students and lecturers as well as three staff of Khon Kaen Agriculture and Technology University’s Faculty of Livestock and Agriculture Business. There were also a driver and four bus staff.
Prachin Buri police chief Pol Maj Gen Sanyachai Chaiamporn said the students, who were studying in a weekend course, were heading for a field study in Chanthaburi’s Khoon Kraben Bay.
The bus had developed a brake malfunction and the driver could not slow it down when it was running down the hill on the sharp curve part of the road. When the situation went out of control, the driver decided to slam the bus into a sand dune designed for emergency stop. However, the bus climbed up the sand dune and overturned on another hill.
