Phuket - The Island of Beautiful Beaches
Phuket, one of the southern provinces of Thailand is the biggest island of the country located in Andman Sea; Phuket has unique distinction of being one of the popular travel destinations of the world known for its beaches, beach resorts, nightlife, water sports and golf courses. Phuket Island is mostly mountainous in its terrain with Mai Thao Sip Song at the height of 529 meters above sea level is its highest point. Southernmost point Laem Promthep is popular spot to view sunset. Most of its beaches are on the western coast spreading across to Phuket Town to the South-East. Phuket International Airport is situated at the north of the Island. Phuket is divided into three districts Mueang Phuket, Kathau and Thalang.

One of the famous Beaches of Phuket is Patong Beach on the central western coast. It is the center of all the cheap shopping and nightlife at Phuket. Apart from Patong other popular beaches south to Patong are Karon Beach, Kata Beach, Kata Noi Beach, and to the extreme south is Nai Harn Beach and Rawai. North to Patong are Kamala Beach, Surin Beach and Bang Tao Beach.
There are three major Islands, Ko Yao, Kho Hae and Kho Bon or Bon Island. Unlike Bangkok and Chiang Mai Phuket have not much historical sites to visit. It has many sites of Sino- Portuguese architectural value. Wat Chalong, a Buddhist temple at the southern end of the island is another piece of architectural beauty. Phuket Fantasea, the cultural theme park at Kamala Beach is a must visit place in Phuket.
In Phuket, you can indulge in a number of adventurous activities and water sports like diving, snorkeling, kayaking, white water rafting, speed boat excursions. The golf courses in Phuket are of International standard, each with its own natural surrounding. Some of the best golf clubs are Blue Canyon Country Club, Laguna Phuket Golf Club, Loch Palm Golf Club Phuket, Phuket Country Club, etc.
In Phuket one can have good quality international as well as Thai food. Amazingly, the food at Patong beach is of cosmopolitan flavor as many of the food joints are run by foreigners. Sea food is quite popular, here. The night life at Phuket is excessively busy and second only to Pattaya. There are plenty of go-go bars, bars, discos and clubs in Phuket.
